A “solidarity greenhouse” in the Cap-de-la-Madeleine sector – L’

A brand new urban agriculture project will soon see the light of day in the Cap-de-la-Madeleine sector in Trois-Rivières. This project at a total cost of $ 341,032, powered by The Bucafin, aims to set up a community greenhouse for market gardening, starting this spring, on rue Saint-Irénée.

The objective of the Serre Solidaire is to offer interesting food alternatives for the citizens of the Cap-de-la-Madeleine sector. In addition, the project contributes to a local and, above all, sustainable food system.

The greenhouse will be erected near Dollard Elementary School. Moreover, projects will be developed in partnership with the school for children. Equipped to operate year-round, the greenhouse will allow the cultivation of quality vegetables and fruits.

The production will be made available at low cost through a mobile kiosk. The promoters are also working on holding educational workshops and awareness activities related to urban agriculture and healthy lifestyles. Construction of the greenhouse is scheduled for spring 2021.

Having already carried out several environmental projects, the director, Cecilia Protz, and the project manager Carolane Babineau, are leading this significant project which was born from a collective dream of a nourishing city.

“Our primary motivation is to make quality fruit and vegetables accessible to people living in this part of the city,” says Ms. Protz. We are going to have a mobile kiosk that will allow us to move around and thus have a local service for residents. It is also a citizen participation project that will allow the voluntary involvement of several citizens. Our dream is that we will one day have a city that will become a large vegetable garden for everyone. ”
