COVID-19: 17 new cases in Mauricie – L’

In the past 24 hours, 67 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the region, i.e. 17 additional cases in Mauricie and 50 in Center-du-Québec.

In Mauricie, there are two new cases in the agglomeration of La Tuque, 14 in Trois-Rivières and one in Shawinigan.

An outbreak is currently hitting the Cooke Residential Center. Since the last report, six employees and 11 residents have been diagnosed positive for COVID-19.

Three new deaths were also recorded. They occurred in CHSLDs (1) and in community accommodation resources (2).

The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 decreased by 2 people, bringing the total to 36 hospitalizations, including five (+1) in intensive care. The number of people recovered is 68.

In addition, 4,321 doses of vaccine were administered to people from the priority groups identified in Mauricie / Center-du-Québec.

Screening: the reflex to develop after the appearance of a slight symptom

The CIUSSS MCQ reiterates the importance of getting tested as soon as there has been contact with a person declared positive for COVID-19 or when there is symptoms associated with COVID-19, however mild they may be.

A slight sore throat, a runny nose, aches are often small ailments that we ignore and which can be caused by a day spent outdoors, but it can also be COVID-19, underlines the CIUSSS.

Testing is the only way to quickly identify positive cases. Then, it is possible to identify their contacts in order to limit as much as possible the possibilities of the virus spreading to their relatives.
