The East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) officially announces that the City of Trois-Rivières will have a new professional hockey team that will make its debut in the 2021-2022 season.
Recently approved by the ECHL Board of Governors, the Trois-Rivières team will be owned by Deacon Sports and Entertainment, which will also manage it.
“We are thrilled to establish professional hockey in Trois-Rivières,” said Dean MacDonald, President of Deacon Sports and Entertainment. ECHL offers an incredible product and remains an essential development tool for the National Hockey League. We can’t wait to start our first game in Trois-Rivières. I would also like to thank the mayor, Jean Lamarche and his management team for their collaboration and support for this project. “
“Trois-Rivières is delighted to be the first city in Quebec to welcome an ECHL team,” commented Jean Lamarche, Mayor of Trois-Rivières, in a press release. Deacon Sports and Entertainment’s expertise will give the new Colosseum a unique signature and a caliber of play that will appeal to many hockey fans from here and elsewhere. “
As part of the 2021-2022 season, the ECHL Trois-Rivières hockey club will play its home games at the brand new Colisée de Trois-Rivières. More news regarding the team name, logo, ticket prices, etc. will be communicated at a later date.
Trois-Rivières joins Coralville, a city located in the American state of Iowa, as a new member of the ECHL. The two organizations will start their first matches in the 2021-2022 season.
