Man rescued, woman missing after falling off rocks at Pescadero State Beach

PESCADERO – CalFire firefighters, San Mateo County sheriff’s deputies and other public-safety agencies were at the scene of a rescue in high-surf conditions after a wave swept a man and woman into the chilly waters off Pescadero State Beach, authorities said Sunday.

Around 3:15 pm, the two were wearing waders and searching for mussels on the rocks when they were knocked off-balance by waves and fell into the ocean, according to a tweet from the sheriff’s department.

A witness was able to pull the man to safety, but the woman was swept under, a CalFire tweet said Sunday night.

Multiple agencies, including paramedics, Coastside and La Honda fire departments, state parks staff and the US Coast Guard responded to the beach, coordinating on search and rescue efforts.

A high-surf advisory had been issued for the beach and nearby areas earlier Sunday.
