Sausalito police accuses 3 of armed kidnapping conspiracy

Three suspects were arrested in an alleged kidnapping attempt involving a gun in Sausalito, police said Tuesday.

Turlock residents Partner Hooten, 46, whom police identified as an ex-boyfriend of the victim, David Louis Wasylina, 59, the victim’s father, and Zackary Kent Wasylina, 34, the victim’s brother, were booked into Marin County Jail. Bail was set at $ 100,000 for each suspect.

The investigation started at about 11:50 pm Monday after Sausalito police received a report of a gunshot in the area of Easterby Street, Lt. Stacie Gregory said. The caller heard men yelling “get in the car.”

Police saw a Ford sedan speeding from the scene, stopped the car and found the three men inside. Police determined they went to the victim’s home and her brother asked her to come out to talk to her father, Gregory said.

When she came out, Hooten allegedly grabbed the victim and pushed her toward their car. Hooten allegedly waved a gun and said he was going to kill himself and the victim, Gregory said.

A tenant of the same home heard the commotion and fired a gunshot into the ground in an effort stop the kidnapping, Gregory said. The suspects fled.

Police booked the suspects on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a crime. Hooten was also booked on allegations of kidnapping, false imprisonment, being a felon in possession of a gun and possession of a controlled substance.

Zackary Wasylina was also booked on suspicion of having a loaded gun in public. David Wasylina also had an outstanding arrest warrant in a drug possession case.

The incident remained under investigation Tuesday, and police were still trying to determine a motive.
