The Federal Kushiro is the first ship of the year at the Port of Trois-Rivières – L’

It’s 3:48 am on the 1ster January that the Federal Kushiro reached the port of Trois-Rivières after a 13-day crossing on the Atlantic, making her the first ship of the year 2021.

With its 23 crew members of Indian nationality, the ship left the port of Alcoa’s calcined coke plant in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on December 19. Its shipment of calcined coke is destined for the Deschambault Alcoa Smelter and unloaded by G3 Canada.

“Despite the continuing pandemic context, we wanted to highlight the arrival of the 56th first ship of the year by presenting the traditional souvenir gifts to the captain of the Federal Kushir, Junes Cherian and Chief Engineer Kumar Sanjay. This handover was carried out in accordance with the distancing and prevention measures in order to ensure the safety of all, it is a priority for us, ”said Gaétan Boivin, President and CEO of the Port of Trois-Rivières.

Both men received a squirt from the painting One port, one team, a work by Caroline St-Pierre, painter from the Mauricie region, as well as baskets of regional products.

To win the title of the first ship, it must come from a foreign port, have made its crossing without calling at another Canadian port and carry out a loading or unloading operation at the Port of Trois-Rivières.

The Federal Kushiro is a 2004-built bulk carrier operating under the flag of the Marshall Islands. It has a length of 190.4 m and a width of 23.6 m. It was moored at section of quay 17 of the Port of Trois-Rivières for a period of two days.
